由吉田达也组建于1998年，来自日本的是巨人（Korekyojinn）是一个决心重新定义复节奏合奏（polyrhythmic ensemble）的前卫爵士摇滚乐队。乐队名的英译为“This Giant（这个巨人）”，实则是一个灵感来源于This Heat和Gentle Giant这两支乐队的双关语；在日语中，“kore”意为“这是”，“kyojinn”意为“巨人”。尽管吉田达也的乐迷可以从乐队的风格中辨认出其痕迹，是巨人也已然创造了自己独树一帜的声音。这支三重奏犹如在刀刃上舞蹈，又如图钉般尖锐——令人折服的演奏能力将他们抛向外围极限，在那里，前卫摇滚与当代爵士相碰撞，聚变为一种令人窒息的、充满未来感的硬摇滚放克。

木户夏树是现象级的邪典前卫摇滚乐队Bondage Fruit的领队兼吉他手。他的另一支乐队——“前卫探戈乐队”Salle Gaveau，则在2007年的Rock in Opposition音乐节[1]的演出中震惊了全欧的观众。

Ground Zero乐队的传奇贝斯手那须野满展示了这个充满力量的三重奏的无限可能。在他的另外两支乐队——广受好评的Altered States乐队和前卫摇滚乐队Unbeltipo中，他也以惊人的实力为人称道。

[1] Rock in Opposition（RIO）是一场70年代末期前卫乐队集结反抗音乐产业的运动，当时的音乐产业拒绝承认他们的音乐。这场运动由英国前卫摇滚乐队Henry Cow发起，在1978年3月，他们邀请了四支来自欧洲大陆的乐队参加在伦敦举办的RIO音乐节。RIO音乐节后陆续举办了三届，并重组为一个组织。1979年末，作为组织的RIO悄悄淡出了人们的视野。

2007年4月，一场RIO的“回归”音乐节在法国举办。RIO音乐节的原始精神得以保留和延续，登台的都是高质量、具有创新精神并且敢于“叫板”商业音乐产业的艺术家。其阵容包括：Magma、Faust、Peter Blegvad三重奏（包括Chris Cutler）、 Present、Zao、Mats/Morgan、Guapo、NeBeLNeST、Salle Gaveau和GMEA。

Formed in 1998 by Yoshida Tatsuya, Korekyojinn from Japan is a progressive-jazz-rock band determined to redefine the polyrhythmic ensemble. The band’s name translates to “This Giant”, a sly pun inspired by This Heat and Gentle Giant. In Japanese the word “kore” means “this”, while “kyojinn” is “giant”. While the style of Korekyojinn could be recognizable to fans of other acts of Yoshida Tatsuya, the band has carved out a sound all its own. The trio dance on razors, are sharp as tacks, and their overwhelming ability jettisons them into the outer limits, where progressive rock and contemporary jazz collide into a breathtaking, futuristic, hard rock funk.

Yoshida Tatsuya has proven himself a major force many times over in Japan’s contemporary music scene. The founder of Ruins and Koenjihyakkei, a member of Zeni Geva, Yoshida has performed with Acid Mothers Gong, Samla Mammas Manna, John Zorn’s Pain Killer, and has been cited by John Zorn as “(the) indisputable master drummer of the Japanese underground”.

Kido Natsuki is leader and guitarist of the phenomenal cult prog rock band Bondage Fruit. His “progressive-tango band” Salle Gaveau performed at the Rock in Opposition Festival[1] in 2007, shocking audiences across Europe.

Ground Zero’s legendary bassist Mitsuru Nasuno demonstrates the limitless potential of the power trio. Nasuno is renowned for his uncanny abilities in the critically acclaimed band Altered States and his experimental progressive rock outfit Unbeltipo.

[1] Rock in Opposition (RIO) was a movement representing a collective of progressive bands in the late 1970s united in their opposition to the music industry that refused to recognize their music. It was initiated by English avant-rock group Henry Cow in March 1978 when they invited four mainland European groups to come to London and perform in a festival called “Rock in Opposition”. Three further RIOs festivals were held and it was reconstituted as a collective. By the end of 1979, RIO as an organization had “quietly slipped away”.

A “reunion” festival took place in France in April 2007. The spirit of the original festival was preserved in that only artists of quality, innovation and the willingness to be “in opposition” to the commercial music industry performed. The line-up at this event included: Magma, Faust, the Peter Blegvad Trio (including Chris Cutler), Present, Zao, Mats/Morgan, Guapo, NeBeLNeST, Salle Gaveau and GMEA.

若想描述Lo’Jo的音乐，你可能不仅得翻查由世界上所有节奏韵律编汇而成的辞典，还得钻研全宇宙和声的百科全书。你或许会从中选取一些这样的形容词——“萨满的”、“多语言的”，任由它带你信步漫游，从热带稀树草原到沙漠，从河流到海洋，从青草地到柏油路；你会经历烈日和尘雾，嗅到雨和火的气息，尝到辛辣滋味，听到鸡鸣狗吠，体会嘉年华与野外露营；而这些，可并不是声音的杂乱堆砌，而是一场洋洋盈耳的声音盛会。

这一伙法国人仿佛并非来自人间，他们带着自己的行囊——多元而异质，又不拘一格的音乐——已在这个世界漂泊了25年。与其说他们是一支乐队，不如说是一群开着大篷车的流浪客，一帮不可救药的背包客、走钢丝者或环球旅行者，对每一种新鲜体验、每一次不期而遇，都敞开怀抱。

Lo’Jo的成员来自不同的音乐背景——朋克、爵士，又或者是摇滚；他们已经发行了十多张唱片，而在这段旅程之中，他们探索过了几乎每一种可能的音乐风格，正如他们用脚步丈量了每一块大陆。乐队主唱兼词曲作者Denis Péan这样形容他们自己：“我们的音乐就像一个无人打理的‘野生’花园，我们试图让它绽放美丽，又同时保持它的野性。我们就像一群农夫：和时间嬉戏。”

从巴马科到纽约，再到悉尼、巴塞罗那或雅典，这杯销魂醇厚的鸡尾酒征服了世界各地的听众，也让Peter Gabriel、Quarteto Cedron、Sinnead O’Connor的制作人Justin Adams，以及Led Zeppelin的前主唱Robert Plant这样的人为之倾倒。

[1] Kamele N’goni：N’goni（Ngoni）是一种源自西非的弦乐器，三种主要的类型分别为Djeli、Donso和Kamale。Kamele N’goni，“年轻人的竖琴”，比传统N’goni小且高四度，通常为葫芦制而非木制，有八弦、十弦或十二弦。该乐器兴于马里Wassoulou地区，在80、90年代Wassoulou音乐的蓬勃发展中扮演了重要的角色。

To describe the music played by Lo’Jo, one would have to delve both into a dictionary of the world’s rhythms and an encyclopedia of universal harmonies. One would borrow from them adjectives like “shamanic”, “polyglot”, and wander from savannas to deserts, from rivers to oceans, from meadows to asphalt roads; there would be sunrays and dust clouds, rain effluvia, fire scents and spicy flavors, ululations, fiestas and bivouacs; not a junk of sounds, no, rather a great acoustic souk.
This angelic French tribe has been roving the world with its heterogeneous and eclectic musical luggage for 25 years already. Not a band, rather a caravan, a collective of incorrigible backpackers/tightrope walkers/globe-trotters, open to every experience and every encounter.

Along a dozen of records, Lo’Jo’s gang, coming from the punk, the jazz, the rock, has explored as many musical lines as continents. As Denis Péan, singer and songwriter, says, “Our music is an anarchic garden we try to cultivate so as to make it both beautiful and wild. We are like farmers: we play with time.”

Time, indeed, seems to hold no grip on those rooted nomads. Even though since the beginning of the adventure musicians have come and gone, the orchestra has settled itself around six members: Denis, of course, the poet with a hat, who gladly plays the barrel organ or the Indian harmonium, Nadia and Yamina, the singing sisters and whirling muses, Richard, the bow virtuoso, Alexandre, the bass player and Baptiste, the drummer.

The adventurous charm of Lo’Jo relies on the voluptuous heaves of the violins, on the peals of the nimble kora[3], on the twirling female choirs and on the acrobatic percussions. And Denis’s lyrics, between griots’[4] fables and humanist aphorisms, mingle French, Spanish, Arabic, Creole, and English.

This bewitching and generous cocktail, which has earned them a reputation from Bamako to New York, to Sydney, Barcelona and Athens, equally seduces Peter Gabriel, Quarteto Cedron, Justin Adams, producer of Sinnead O’Connor, or Robert Plant, ex-singer of Led Zeppelin.

[1] Kamele N’goni: The ngoni or “n’goni” is a string instrument originating in West Africa. There are three main types, the djeli, the donso and the kamale. The kamale n’goni or “young man’s harp”  is smaller than, and tuned a fourth higher than, the traditional ngoni, often made of calabash rather than wood, and has eight, ten or twelve strings. It became popular in the Wassoulou region and contributed to the rise of Wassoulou music in the 1980s and 1990s.

[2] The imzad (alternately amzad) is a single-string bowed instrument used by the Tuareg people in Africa.

[3] Kora: A West African instrument with twenty-one strings, combining features of the harp and the lute.

[4] Griot: A member of a caste responsible for maintaining an oral record of tribal history in the form of music, poetry, and storytelling in West Africa.

Rock in Opposition

最初的Rock in Opposition音乐节在1978年3月12日于英国伦敦举办，一批不符合主流音乐厂牌市场价值观念的欧洲前卫摇滚乐队因它而聚集在一起。

Henry Cow在自己的国家几乎是无人问津的。他们把乐队最后五年的大部分时间都花在了欧洲各国巡演的路上，期间邂逅了很多虽不知名却极具创造力的乐队。Henry Cow和他们有一个共同点：唱片公司都对他们的音乐不感兴趣。

Henry Cow决定将其中的一些乐队带入英国观众的视野。在英国艺术协会（British Arts Council）的支持下，他们在伦敦举办了一个名为Rock in Opposition的音乐节，并直接把“那些唱片公司不想让你听到的音乐”作为宣传语。

2007年4月，一场RIO的“回归”音乐节在法国举办。RIO音乐节的原始精神得以保留和延续，登台的都是高质量、具有创新精神并且敢于“叫板”商业音乐产业的艺术家。该音乐节由来自法国的音乐推广人Michel Besset和Roger Trigaux筹办，经Henry Cow乐手Chris Cutler授权沿用“Rock in Opposition”之名。

在东京艺术委员会（Arts Council Tokyo）的支持下，RIO终于在2014年11月登陆日本，由永井明子与RIO Japan委员会主理。永井明子已在Disk Union的前卫摇滚部门担任负责人超过10年。

关于RIO Japan，Cutler这样评价：“当然，RIO已经变了。曾经它是一场音乐人自发组织的运动，一场为了新的音乐形式，也为求独立于体制而进行的抗争；而现在，它已重塑为一个庆典，为纪念那个年代、那些乐队，也为那些受他们启发而产生的音乐。我认为这种变化是理所应当的。RIO早已不再属于我们，现在它是你们的了，请好好照料它。”

Rock in Opposition

The original Rock in Opposition took place on March 12, 1978 in London, England. It brought together European prog-rock bands united by their common un-marketability to major record labels.

Practically ignored in their own country, Henry Cow spent most of their last five years touring mainland Europe. There they encountered many innovative groups who were virtually unknown outside their own countries. What Henry Cow had in common with these groups was that record companies were not interested in their music.

Henry Cow decided to expose a few of these European groups to British audiences and organized, with the help from the British Arts Council, a festival in London they called “Rock in Opposition” with the slogan, “The music the record companies don’t want you to hear”. 

A “reunion” festival took place in South France in April 2007. The spirit of the original festival was preserved in that only artists of quality, innovation and the willingness to be “in opposition” to the commercial music industry performed. The festival was organized by French music promoter Michel Besset and Roger Trigaux ,who received Chris Cutler’s sanction to use the name “Rock in Opposition”.

The fest finally sets foot in Japan in November 2014 With the help from the Arts Council Tokyo. It was chaired by Nagai Akiko. Nagai, head of Disk Union’s progressive rock department for 10 years, with RIO Japan committee.

Cutler, who features in Henry Cow, said of RIO Japan, “RIO is changed of course; back then it was a musician-led exercise in self-sufficiency fighting for new musical forms and independence from the institutions; now it is recast as a celebration of those times and those bands, and of the music they inspired. Which, I suppose, is the way it should be. RIO ceased to be ours long ago; now it’s yours. Take care with it.”
