Mathias Heise是丹麦为数不多的爵士口琴演奏家之一。自8岁那年第一次拿起父母送给他口琴后，他便深深地迷上了这个乐器。无论他身在何方，身上永远带着口琴，口琴伴随着他度过了生活的起起落落。

融合（fusion）风格的音乐总是给他带来无限灵感，于是在2012年，他与同样年轻的伙伴们组建了自己的第一支融合风格的乐队：Mathias Heise Quadrillion。成员包括：吉他手Mads Christiansen，贝斯手David Vang，鼓手Aksel Stadel Borum，还有负责口琴和键盘的Mathias自己。乐队成立时，成员的平均年龄只有23岁。

一种全新的风格随着这支乐队诞生了——FuRoJazz。“Fu”代表future（未来）、funk（放克）和fusion；“Ro”代表rock（摇滚）。他们创造了真正属于当代的独特声音，将半音阶口琴和最前沿的融合爵士完美结合。爵士的和弦与即兴，摇滚与放克原始而有力的节奏，交织于他们个性十足的演绎，现场总是令人愉悦且极富感染力。

Mathias Heise是一颗正在冉冉升起的新星。

他获奖无数：20岁那年，他获得了2013年半音阶口琴比赛的世界冠军；2015年他被丹麦授予“年度爵士新星”奖，同年其乐队获丹麦音乐奖“最佳新爵士艺人”提名；2016年，他获颁丹麦王储夫妇星尘奖——该奖每年授予表现突出、有望在国际上大展宏图的年轻丹麦艺术家；2017年3月，他获得Ben Webster奖，是该奖有史以来最年轻的获得者。

Mathias Heise is one of very few jazz harmonica players in Denmark. He was only 8 years old when he first picked up the harmonica his parents had bought for him. He became fascinated by the instrument, which has followed him through thick and thin ever since, and he literally never goes anywhere without it.

Inspired by the fusion genre, in 2012, he founded his fusion band Mathias Heise Quadrillion with equally talented peers aged only 23 in average then: Mads Christiansen on electric guitar, David Vang on bass guitar, Aksel Stadel Borum on drums, and Mathias himself on chromatic harmonica and keyboards.

As the band is formed, a brand new genre called FuRoJazz (FU = Future, Funk, and Fusion. RO = Rock) is also born. They have managed to create a truly unique, contemporary sound combining the chromatic harmonica and new, updated jazz fusion. Jazz harmonies and improvisation mixed with rock and funk music’s hard-hitting, primal beats are sophisticatedly fused into a cheerful, euphoric and very personal expression.

Ian Patterson, All About Jazz, reviewed Mathias Heise Quadrillion’s live performance at Penang Island Jazz Festival (2016), “What sets Mathias Heise apart from most harmonica players is his style of music. Heise, along with his band, plied a form of jazz-fusion, one defined by its melodic and harmonic sensibility and its accessible grooves. Heise’s flowing solo set the bar high from the outset, and whilst the set was peppered with virtuosos displays from all, the strong compositions and the group cohesion was most striking. Mathias Heise Quadrillion’s fine performance demonstrated that jazz-fusion can be accessible and ambitious at the same time. A band seemingly going places.”

Mathias Heise is a multi-awarded fast-rising star.

At the age of 20, Mathias Heise was crowned 2013 Chromatic Harmonica World Champion. In 2015, he was awarded “New Jazz Star of The Year” in Denmark, and the band was nominated “Best New Jazz Act” at “Danish Music Awards”. In 2016, Mathias Heise received The Danish Crown Prince Couple’s Stardust Award – an annual award that is given to honor and highlight young Danish artists about to make an international breakthrough. Lately, in March 2017, he was awarded with the Ben Webster Prize, as the youngest ever.

四位音乐家之间保持着一种微妙的平衡，他们在紧凑而结构精良的作曲之中，突出了一种有机的、旋律性极强的律动。Boisseau把低音提琴演奏得像格纳瓦音乐中的Guembri三弦贝斯；Hollenbeck则在其中融入了空间感十足的巴西打击乐；而两组管乐，不仅充满力量、层次丰富，还不乏幽默，也绝不会用力过猛。正是他们之间这种恰到好处的连结，塑造了这支乐队独树一帜的风格，也让人不禁期待他们更多的可能性。

J.A.S.S., a pun and acronym, is the name of a quartet comprised of drummer John Hollenbeck, saxophonist Alban Darche, trombonist Samuel Blaser and bassist Sébastian Boisseau, which also recalls the Original Dixieland Jass Band, the group credited with the very first jazz recording way back in 1917 or simply the name of centuries-old popular card game in Switzerland and Austria.

All four members are among the most inventive and exciting players and composers on the scene: John Hollenbeck has four Grammy nominations; Alban Darche is the leader of several bands including Le Gros Cube, a big band featuring the finest jazz talents in France; Sébastien Boisseau is a renowned double bass player in Europe and jointly runs the French jazz label Yolk Records; Samuel Blaser enriches the raw impetuousness of avant-garde jazz with the proven sophistication of ageless classical forms and has associated with many great artists, including Swiss percussion legend Pierre Favre. It’s no surprise that Rene Laanen of USA Trombone Online has called Blaser “one of today’s finest trombonists”. They have displayed their first-call skills on their self-titled debut.

This collective quartet keeps a delicate balance between its four musicians, emphasizing the organic highly melodic flow within its compact, well-constructed compositions. Boisseau often plays his bass like a guembri in Gnawa music, while Hollenbeck uses the space to intermingle airy Brazilian percussion. The two horns were powerful and sophisticated, but also funny, and never overstated. It was the intelligent tripping of a group with its very own signature, which still has more of it in the can.

Every song on J.A.S.S. has something that will catch the listener by surprise. And given what each member brings to the table, that’s not surprising.
