早在1997年，成立不久的Dainius Pulauskas Group（DPG）便凭借首张专辑《Penetration》，以史无前例的惊人速度跻身立陶宛一流爵士乐队之列。

乐队成功的关键，不仅在于每个成员自身极高的艺术素养以及他们无与伦比的合奏，更在于他们音乐本身——最独具一格、鲜活生动的融合爵士，曾被芬兰著名乐评人Risto Haapsamo誉为“现代爵士乐强劲有力的脉搏”。乐队的大部分曲目都是由领队Dainius Pulauskas创作的，作品既有北欧的简朴，又充满了火热的激情与活力。他的音乐无一例外地呈现出极富质感的稳健结构，也淋漓尽致地展现了原声与电子乐器的有趣结合。

成团至今，DPG曾参加过欧洲、非洲、亚洲（包括中国、印度、印度尼西亚、马来西亚、日本）和美国的众多著名爵士音乐节，录制过9张专辑和2张DVD，还与立陶宛国家交响乐团有过一个合作项目。

爵士乐评人Ian Patterson曾在其All About Jazz的专栏中将DPG描述为“将旋律与力量，抒情与惊喜融为一体的独特组合，牢牢占据了欧洲顶尖前卫融合爵士乐队的地位”，并称乐队的核心人物、钢琴兼键盘手Dainius Pulauskas“毫无疑问是欧洲融合爵士乐手中最值得期待的一位。”

如今，DPG已是立陶宛爵士在国际乐坛的一张耀眼的名片。为了肯定乐队的成就，在2001年，立陶宛音乐家协会授予乐队金碟奖；2004年，乐队由于在推广立陶宛爵士文化方面做出了突出贡献，获颁立陶宛身份奖。

Dainius Pulauskas Group (DPG) was formed in 1996 and instantly became one of the leading Lithuanian jazz units for their 1997 debut album “Penetration”. They has beaten all local records by rising to the hall of fame of Lithuanian jazz in an amazingly short time.

The group’s key to success is the artistic excellence of its individual members, their unparalleled ensemble, and, of course, their music – a most idiosyncratic and vivid version of fusion once described as “a forceful pulse of modern jazz” by Risto Haapsamo. The group’s repertoire consists largely of compositions by its leader, Dainius Pulauskas. Either marked with Nordic austerity, or seething with energy and peppiness, his music invariably displays solid structuring of musical textures and colorful combinations of acoustic and electronic instruments.

During the years of its existence DPG participated in many prestigious European, African, Asian (China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan) and American jazz festivals, recorded 9 CDs and a 2 DVDs and recently produced a program with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra.

Jazz critic Ian Patterson, in his article portal on All About Jazz described DPG as “a unique group whose mixture of melody and muscle, lyricism and the unexpected, places it firmly at the forefront of progressive European jazz-fusion.” And the group leader, pianist/keyboardist Dainius Pulauskas is characterized as “without a doubt one of the most interesting composers at the fusion end of European jazz”.

DPG is no doubt an internationally renowned ambassador of Lithuanian jazz. To recognize their achievement, the Lithuanian Musicians’ Union awarded the group with the Gold Disc in 2001; in 2004 the group received the LT Identity Award of the Lithuanian Institute for promoting Lithuanian jazz.

Michael Obert，1966年出生于德国莱茵河畔的布莱萨赫，是一位优秀的作家和记者。在过去的20年里，他走访了世界上各个偏僻的角落，主要聚焦在非洲和中东。在他去过的地方里面，有些像是世外桃源，有些则堪称人间地狱。他最知名的著作《Regenzauber》（英文译名《On the River of Gods》，意为“在诸神之河上”）记录了他从尼日尔河的源头到河口的7个月的旅程。文学评论界常将他与Bruce Chatwin、Jon Krakauer和Ryszard Kapuscinski等著名旅行作家作比。Michael不旅行时居住在柏林。《丛林之歌》是他的电影处女作。

As a young man, American Louis Sarno heard a song on the radio that gripped his imagination. He followed the mysterious sounds all the way to the Central African rainforest and found their source with the Bayaka Pygmies, a tribe of hunters and gatherers. He never left.

Twenty-five years later, Louis Sarno has recorded more than 1,000 hours of unique Bayaka music. He is a fully accepted member of the Bayaka society and has a 13-year-old son, Samedi. Once, when Samedi was a baby, he became seriously ill and Louis feared for his life. He held his son in his arms through a frightful night and made him a promise, “If you get through this, one day I’ll show you the world I come from.”

Now the time has come to fulfill his promise, and Louis travels with Samedi from the African rainforest to another jungle, one of concrete, glass, and asphalt: New York City. Together, they meet Louis’ family and old friends, including his closest friend from college, Jim Jarmusch. Carried by the contrasts between rainforest and urban America, with a fascinating soundtrack and peaceful, loving imagery, Louis’ and Samedi’s stories are interwoven to form a touching portrait of an extraordinary man and his son. “Song from the Forest” is a modern epic set between rainforest and skyscrapers.

On this journey Louis realizes he is not part of this globalized world anymore but globalization has also arrived in the rainforest. The Bayaka depend on Louis for their survival. Father and son return to the melodies of the jungle but the question remains: how much longer will the songs of the forest be heard?

Director

Born in Breisach am Rhein in 1966, Michael Obert is an award-winning German author and journalist. Over the past 20 years he has travelled to the most remote parts of the world, forgotten corners of paradise as well as disaster areas and war zones. He mainly covers Africa and the Middle East. His seven-month journey from the source of the Niger to its mouth brought fame with his best-selling Regenzauber, known in English as On the River of Gods. Literary critics liken him to Bruce Chatwin, Jon Krakauer, and Ryszard Kapuscinski. When Michael is not travelling, he lives in Berlin. “Song from the Forest” is his first film.
